‘Tis the Season to Update your Skincare Regime
Everything you need to know for a healthy glow this Spring & Summer
As we all prepare for much toastier months ahead, our skin is right there with us. And while you may be more concerned with penciling in your next pool session, it’s crucial to remember that with a new season comes changes to your skin and a plethora of environmental factors that can affect your overall skin health. In other words, your winter skincare regime is not going to cut it. Lucky for you, we are here to help you make the necessary adjustments to your skincare to have a (somewhat) seamless transition as we approach the summer months.
Don’t skimp on sunscreen
Even though you should be applying SPF all year (please, just do it), you should take extra precaution as the temperature rises and powerful UV rays take over. If you plan on spending time in the sun, be sure to apply sunscreen of SPF 50 or higher to your face, body and lips, while re-applying every couple of hours (or even sooner if you are sweating or swimming). In the unfortunate event that you do get a sunburn, it may be time to curl up and watch some Netflix in the great indoors to prevent further damage – and pain.
Dial back the intense skincare routine
Put down your 5-step nighttime madness and hear me out. I know it may seem unfathomable to abandon an extensive skincare routine, but I can assure you that you will not be doing your skin any good by following your winter practice and quite frankly, you’ll be wasting your money. Seeing as our skin produces more oil during the summer there is no need to pile on heavy cremes. Simplify your usual regime as the weather heats up and opt for a limited number of products. Ellie Bianca’s Body Oil is a great place to start if you’re looking for a 1-step all-natural solution all summer long.
Steer clear of heavy makeup
Walking around in the 30-degree heat with a full-coverage foundation on my face certainly does not sound like my idea of an enjoyable time. Rather than sweating it out underneath your foundation every day, go au naturel and let your skin breathe to avoid messy breakouts – with the exception of your chosen moisturizer and SPF of course.
